This question is perhaps one of the primary concerns new parents have. Those first 6-8 weeks can be fraught with exhaustion from the frequent feeds and challenges to interpret a baby’s needs. As a postpartum doula, I so enjoy empowering new mamas and papas by helping them understand their baby. Having worked with so many families over the last 10 + years, I have become pretty good at interpreting infant cues, reading baby body language and teaching parents how to notice these unspoken messages from their child and respond to them supportively. I enjoy helping parents know what a baby’s capabilities are and what behavior is normal for them. As far as sleep goes, this article is one of the very best I’ve ever read on understanding baby’s sleep.
